Last month, we began tearing down SPD’s Land Rover Defender (actually a Series-III to be specific) in the first phase of an 18 month project to rebuild the vehicle to a hybrid-electric drive train. While you can actually separate the body from the chassis on these vehicles in-tact, we opted to tear the body down panel-by-panel so that it can be painted in components. We’ll also be building a new rolling chassis from the ground-up on a custom chassis built by Designa Chassis in the UK that is constructed to be compatible with our 1973 Series-III body, but modern Range Rover axles, suspension, brakes and power steering (to improve performance and safety).

Master Technician, and former Bugatti restorer, Gene Kath, has been making great progress on this phase of the project. Now if only it could go back together as quickly!
